They Don't Know (About Us)
It seems I can’t get enough of Moneybrother’s version of They Don’t Know in Swedish (Dom vet ingenting om oss). Lately I’ve had it on repeat when walking to and from work, just listening to the same song over and over again. It’s just… sooo good. Older versions by Kirsty MacColl (original?) and Tracey Ullman are nice too. Browsing Spotify I found a...

Fresh air? Bah!
I’ve been breathing nothing but southern rock from the seventies lately so when First Aid Kit released a new album I decided it was time to open the window and let some new air in. Refreshing. The break was short though – this baby landed at my door a couple of days ago. Some damn nice recordings on that album.

All alone on a saturday night
Which usually means it’s time for some blues. I’m still a bit pissed that I missed Walter Trout when he played here but Spotify and YouTube is all I need right now. For the moment I’m aquainting myself with Firebird, a blues-rock power trio with Bill Steer from Carcass at the helm. Very nice sound. Gov’t Mule is also in the playlist and while the pile of 70’s southern...

Late night recommendations
Got two tips for ya tonight before I head off to bed: The Bronx and Cactus. Not particularly similar bands (35 odd years between them for starters) but both worth listening to. Vids coming in a few secs. Also, I upgraded to Spotify Premium so I can listen on my iPhone – I recommend it. It’s awesome. If I say “awesome” a lot it’s because I’ve been watching a lot of...

Flashbacks
Something awakened a memory from long ago – all of a sudden Better off Dead (Bad Religion, from the album Stranger than Fiction) started playing in my head. Couldn’t resist firing up Spotify to back in time to secondary school. I was all about Bad Religion, Nirvana and stuff back then. Still love the tunes but much of the music I listen to nowadays was just not cool enough for me back then....

Bear on a hog
Reddit’s a gold mine and while there’s stuff to make you mad, sick or sad as well there’s tons of stuff that makes you smile. Thegrinninglemur’s story in the “most fucked up things you’ve witnessed” thread is hilarious: In Prague, periodically the ‘Baroque’ Circus sets up it’s big-top and caravans on the Letna plains. It’s a...

Soft spots
I’ve always had a soft spot for acoustic performances. I love Neil Young’s MTV Unplugged performance (and Nirvana’s too). Recently I discovered Jackson Browne did a solo acoustic album (named Solo Acoustic even) in ‘05. That version of Take it easy is soooo good but there’s a lot of other songs on that album as well. Never knew much about Jackson Browne before finding...

Hellsingland Underground
A friend pointed me towards Hellsingland Underground earlier today… “Swedish laid back rock/country band with Allman brothers sound” were his words and they were true. Especially the opening track reminded me of Jessica. Nice stuff and the timing is right – I’m still a sucker for southern-rock-meets-outlaw-country.

Neil Young, Fork in the Road
Missed the release of Neil’s latest album (released in march or april this year?) but am listening to it now on Spotify. I’m three four songs in and so far my experience can be summed up as “meh”. Cough up the bucks is a bit like Simon and Garfunkel meets Rage Against the Machine.

Lasse @ Cloetta Center, Linkoping
Trying to recover or at least cushion the withdrawal from last night’s concert with Lars Winnerbäck. Great concert and I had a great time. Never saw him before despite being a fan though to be honest I’m not much of a concert man. Not much of a lyrics lover either but Lasse’s texts are among the few that manages to make it all the way to my brain. :) Thanks for a great night...
